I am Tagged by Suey About School Memories

Go to kindergarten?  I didn't know this word when I entered an elementary school in the Fall of 1976.  I didn't understand what grade I was in.  I was in the special education classroom with deaf kids.

Graduate from high school?  Yes, I did make it successfully.  See a picture of Mr. S, a
high school prinicpal, handed me a diploma at a graduation ceremony on the right.  This was taken by a professional photographer.  I could hear there was an applaud that was coming from my class and an audience as I was walking toward to meet Mr. S.  I will never forget that event.

Go to college?  Yes, I graduated with a major in Fashion Marketing Management.

Get straight A's in school?  Yes, I think so.

Go to prom?  Yes, I did.  I went to Junior and Senior Proms.  At my Junior Prom, I dated my brother, Joe, cuz I didn't have anyone at my high school.  I also wore my mother's college prom dress.  I invited my then boyfriend, Todd, to my Senior Prom.

Take part in extracurriculars?  I did play a violin in an elementary school.  Some clubs:  Big Brothers & Sisters Program at FSD in St. Augustine; and Sub-Debs, Society of Excellence, and Showstoppers at Seabreeze.

Play any sports?  I am not a sport fan.

Graduate in the top ten of your class?  I don't think so.  I was in the #70 as if I am
trying to recall, along with 360 graduates.  According to this newspaper picture on the right, u can't see me on the stage far.  I wore a red gown.  It was right before we headed to our project graduation party at the hotel that night.  A hotel is across the road from Ocean Center on the beachside.  We stayed there celebrating all night till morning.

Miss a lot of school?  Yes, 7 months cuz I had between 3 hip surgeries and was sick few times at an elementary school and middle school in PA.  Few times I was sick during high school years.

Have a favorite teacher?  Yes, a few.  A special education teacher with sign lanugage at an elementary school in Modesto, CA cuz she taught me how to handwriting when she noticed my handwriting looked scrambling and made me learning new things in school.  A history teacher at FSD in St. Augustine during my freshmen year.  A special education with no sign language at Seabreeze.

Go to football games?  Not much.  Attended there at FSD few times including homecoming game.  Few times at Seabreeze, regluar and homecoming games.

Enjoy pep rallies?  Yes, I did.  Took a place in an auditorium at FSD; in the gym at Seabreeze.

Know what you wanted to be when you grew up?  I didn't know what I wanted to be when I grew up when I was in high school but thought about becoming a future restaurant manager.  Otherwise, my grades at college were failed so I've changed a different major, Fashion Marketing Management, a year later.

Pack your lunch or buy?  Both since elementary school days.

Like gym class?  Kind of.

Have a bunch of friends in school?  Yes, some at elementary and middle schools in PA.  Some at middle school in Texas.  Some in high school at FSD and Seabreeze.

Fit into a clique like jock, stoner, geek, etc?  With a good group.  A different from other kinds of groups at Seabreeze cuz I was the only one multihandicapped in there.

Have a nickname in school?  No, but most hearing and deaf kids call me "Kitty" by nickname since birth and after my mother's aunt.

Get picked on in school?  Yes, by hearing and deaf kids.

Have a favorite subject?  English and History.

Have a least favorite subject?  A math and gym.

Go to graduation?  Yes, I was sitting in the chair next to a class Co-Valedictorian on the stage and was waiting for my turn to receive a diploma from a high school prinicpal.

Have a crush on anyone in school?  Yes, I had a crush on Todd who was then a junior at FSD cuz he looked so cute and athletic.  I watched him jogging almost every afternoon after school.  Another crush I had on when I entered a sophomore year at Seabreeze was a senior guy named Brett.  He looked so handsome and was so nice to me.  He was also a homecoming king.  I did introducing Brett to my father at homecoming dance.  I did not tell Todd about Brett much.

Go To Any Class Reunions?  Yes, I did.  I went to a 5th reunion while I was in college; and a 10th one during married to Todd.  I invited him there.  I was alone in riding a scooter attended 100th high school class reunion at SHS on April 26, 2008.  Maybe there will be 20th anniversary next year.  Wait and see what it will happen.

May 7, 2008 8:30 am:  P.S.    About homecoming king, Brett, I received a congratulation card from him in the mail.  It was handed to me by Mr. J. when I was about picking up my real diploma at SHS right after I graduated.  I was surprised.  I didn't know that!  I guess Brett found out a newspaper article about me a month before.  How nice of him!

  1. Fun memories! That is really cool about the homecoming king giving you a card. But I am sorry to hear you got picked on. Kids can be mean, but it sounds like there was a lot of nice ones around you too.
